Toshiba Notebooks Tune-in Chrontel for TV-Out Feature Japan's Number One Notebook OEM Picks Chrontel Video ICs for Four New PC Designs
SAN JOSE, CA (14 July, 2003) Chrontel (www.chrontel.com), a leading provider of video interface chips, will supply TV encoder devices for four new Toshiba notebook PC lines. Toshiba, the top seller of notebook PCs in Japan, has selected Chrontel's CH7011 chip to provide the popular “TV-Out” feature for more than a dozen individual models in Toshiba's Dynabook Satellite 1870, Satellite A8, Dynabook C8 and Dynabook E8 computer product lines. Toshiba's Dynabook and Satellite notebook models offer the latest PC technology to the highly-mobile Japanese business and consumer markets. By incorporating Chrontel's CH7011, Toshiba PCs can transmit computer video to any external television through a composite video or S-video connector. Users can play video games, watch DVDs, or give professional presentations on their Toshiba notebooks, while viewing the much larger display of a conventional TV. "The Japanese market is probably the most demanding in the world when it comes to mobility and video quality," explained Dr. David Soo, Chrontel president and CEO. "Chrontel's selection by Toshiba--the top notebook brand in Japan--confirms that our video technology can satisfy the most exacting standards at a most competitive price point. "The Chrontel CH7011 supports computer graphic display resolutions up to XGA (1024 x 768 pixels), and is compatible with both NTSC and PAL television formats. The device includes text sharpness enhancement and adaptive flicker removal with up to 7 lines of filtering, and employs four 10-bit DACs to drive the external video displays. The CH7011 is offered in a low-cost 64-pin LQFP package, and has Windows / DOS driver supports from major graphics companies.
Founded in 1986, privately-held Chrontel is a leading supplier of video interface ICs and technologies to computer manufacturers worldwide. The company's innovations include the world's first VGA-to-TV encoder. Chrontel video display chips are incorporated into reference designs offered by Intel and other leading microprocessor and graphics processor vendors. The company currently offers the industry's most complete product line of video interface ICs for notebook and desktop computers, and its components can be found in PCs sold by dozens of leading manufacturers. The world's six largest computer brands, and the world's five largest notebook ODMs (original design manufacturers) rely on Chrontel ICs.
